Purpose
 

The BGA is a non-profit student organization committed to the unification of its members through the facilitation of programs that strengthen the community of Black graduate and professional students across disciplines.
The mission of the BGA is to:

  1. To encourage scholarly and professional attitudes and performance amongst Black graduate students.
  2. To promote participation in advanced study for Black graduate students.
  3. To promote activity interchange between Black graduate students of Purdue University and those of other colleges and universities.
  4. To provide a professional and social opportunity for networking among Black graduate students at Purdue.
  5. To provide a forum for the discussion of grievances, issues, and etc., of direct concern to Black graduate students.

The objectives of the BGA are:

  1. To provide a support system for Black students enrolled in graduate and professional programs;
  2. To serve as a networking organization for Black students and alumni;
  3. To provide counseling and advice concerning graduate and professional programs to current and prospective students;
  4. To assist the university in recruiting qualified Black students into graduate and professional programs;
  5. To work with other university organizations to assure the creation of an institutional environment within and outside the classroom - that fosters students' full personal, academic, and professional development;
  6. To be of service to the Purdue University and Greater Lafayette community.
