I. Welcome & Food (15 minutes)

II. BGA T-Shirt Update (5 minutes)

The tee shirt will be more conservative with just the BGA emblem.

III. Officer Position Descriptions (25 minutes)

Elections will be held in January for the 2008-2009 school year.

Contact Gernise Dixon at gdixon@purdue.edu if you would like to see power point description of each position.

Positions are not difficult, but do require a time commitment.

IV. Announcements/Questions (15 minutes)

NBGSA regional conference will be at Purdue University on Nov. 30-Dec. 1. If you would like to participate, please sign up on the NBGSA website. www.nbgsa.org

Red Wine Tasting event will be at Capp n Ginos on November 13 at 6:30 pm. The cost is $25 and includes six wines. If you are interested, please email Michelle by Friday November 9.

Congrats and Thanks to these BGA e-board members…Preciaus & Jackie. They will be graduating in December.

C) Introduction of Officers

  • Treasurer- Natasha Sutton

Dues are $10 for academic year. Cost of tee shirt with dues $5, without dues $15. Dues can be paid directly to Natasha or Young Hall, room 81.

  • Historian- Hakeenah Brown

  • Academic Professional Development Chair- Lindsay Brit

“Networking on the Green” event on September 13, 2007 from 6-8pm at Brik Golf Complex. Space is limited, please sign-up ASAP.

  • Community Service Chair – Jackie Bryson and Fatimah Rashad

Upcoming event for September 27 will be Light the Night Walk at 8pm. Kris Kringle volunteering event will take place in December.

  • Banquet Chair- Louis Nelson

Banquet will be held Saturday March 29, 2008. More announcements to follow in January.

  • Membership Chair- Preciaus Heard

  • Undergraduate Outreach Chair- Alister McLeod

GRUNT (Grads Undergrads Networking Together) tutoring program in math, chemistry will be every other Sunday from 5- 7pm. Want to add physics but in need of member(s) as tutor(s). Grad 101 to take place in spring semester. Grad 101 is forum to educate undergrads about the opportunities and advantages of gradate school.

In need of the following positions:

1. Webmaster co-Chair
2. Recruitment Chair
3. Social Chair
4. Members to serve on various committees. Sign-up sheets posted after this meeting. Can join 1 or more committees at anytime.

Please contact a member of the eboard for a description of open positions and/or if you are interested.

D) Presentation: “Message from the President”

  • Why Paying Dues Are Critical

Benefits include subsidized tee shirts, food at family meetings, discount on banquet tickets and eligibility for scholarships. Also to help cover cost of events such as the banquet. Last year BGA was -23,000 after banquet.

  • Why Knowing Each Other is Critical

Goal: networking, also to provide friendly face in Purdue environment.

  • BGA Officer Election Timeline

Elections will be held in January. At least two people run for each position. Transition meeting will be in spring semester (before finals).
